351w fuel problem?
1 have a '79 e 150. when it is cold, i pump the pedal twice and turn the key for a good long time. the engine starts very slowly and then gradually (over 30 sec) reaches high idle. after that, the engine runs pretty good, although there is some hesitation occasionally. i've replaced the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil, module, and now the fuel filter. also, sometimes i notice a smell like charcoal lighter fluid burning when i've been driving it a while. anybody have any ideas? i have limited mechanical knowledge and few tools, but i really don't want to take it to a mechanic unless it's absoluely necessary. thanks.

Next time, try pumping it once. You may be kicking off the high idle pumping it twice. If you remove the air filter assembly when the engine is cold, watch what happens when you twist the throttle. Get back to us if it doesn't work. Good luck....
