TV & Newpaper Reporting

A mistake I made in a previous post has prompted me to ask you all the following questions:

What is your primary source for news? Do you think that the TV and major American Newpapers are biased? If you think the media is biased, then why and how? Finally, where do you think one can go for reliable and truly unbaised news?

Most of the major network news outlets are biased, probably about 45 degrees left.

I watch Fox news and read the foxnews.com stuff most, but have lots of disagreements with them. I also browse msnbc and cnn both on the web and on tv.

If anyone thinks there is no bias, they need to make a score card of issues and record on it for a few weeks.

I also read townhall.com, the federalist and a few other "right" sources.

To be more specific with Fox news, the most balanced, several times I have seen "On the record" where there will be a guest from both the right and left sides on an issue. Invariably, the leftist will blabber all the time while the rightest is talking, and the host won't intervene. The end result of the interview is that the liberal talks the full time, and the conservative politely (most of the time) only talks about one third of the time, and then not singularly.

If they want to have people from both sides talk on an issue, they should only have one person's mic active at a time.

There is no place to get TOTALLY reliable and unbiased news. A person must read/listen to both sides and make their own decisions. Unfortunately, some people believe too much of the stuff they hear without thinking about it.

Winford: I think you are correct. The major networks make their bais very evident. For example, I saw a guy interviwed by G Gordon Liddy that wrote a book exposing Jesse Jackson and his shakedown mo. He said that NBC's Today show flatly refused to interview him. Probably just downright scared to do it.

The Christian Science Monitor has a good reputation for fairness, although I am not familiar with the paper. Otherwise, most of the major daily papers that approach any subject with intelligence and depth, are left wing rags and wind up undermining their own credibility.

I know you are right when it comes to searching out sources for good and unbiased information. One has to really work at it so it becomes a chore to spend that much time and energy just to stay well informed. There has to be an easier way!

ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC and CNN are all house organ for the DNC. And it seen to be that MSNBC and CNN are fighting it out for top honor for the most biased. They all come from the left, interview so called experts who just happen to be liberals. Very rarely do they give an honest interview with some conservative mind people. And usual they only do that to try and make conservatives look like idiots. Totally out of context comes to mind. They label conservative and republicans as "hard right" or "extreme conservatives" and other such labels, but rarely label liberals as hard left, or call them the liberals or socialist minded pinheads that they really are. The harshest label liberals get on network news channels are "moderates". Hillary Clinton, Ted Kennedy, Chuck Schumer, Dianne Feinstein, moderates? I don't think so. They never follow up on liberals when a liberal is wrong or screws up (of course if they did, that's all that would be on the news), but are all over Republicans when they are wrong or screw up. Local new paper, The San Jose Mercury News isn't much better. The whole editorial staff is a bunch of left wing communist that thinks we all hang on their every word. Don't get me started on the New York Times.

In my option, to get the whole story you need to get all sides of the story. If you want a left point of view, just turn on the TV or pick up a newspaper. Time and Newsweek are also good sources of left wing thinking. If you want a right wing point of view, you'll have to dig for it. So I'll bite my tongue and watch a network news channel, then catch a little Fox news then visit news site like World Net Daily, News Max.com. Grit my teeth and read the local paper then visit sites like calnews.com. I try to get all points of views, but it's not easy and is time consuming. That's what you have to do because all news outlets have their own agenda. Fox news is about the only major news channel that comes close to being fair, the others just give it lip service.

I think what sealed it for me was when Dan Rather said during the 2000 election, "we won". Referring to Al Gore winning of Florida's electoral votes. They called the state for Gore, when Gore never really had a lead it the first place. "We won", who is "we" Mr. Rather?

Most of my news comes via the Radio. I also watch the O'Reilly Factor. I skim the local paper and read National Review. For the internet, worldnetdaily.com. There a some others that I glance at but those are the main ones.
