Exclamation Need Help Asap!!

Just fired up my Grandpa's truck after rebuilding his EFI 302. Full roller motor, Crane cam (206/212 w/.530 lift). The problem is after just 5 minutes of break-in, the driver side shorty was glowing bright red at the collector. We used his stock single exhaust which consists of a hollow out 2nd cat and muffler. We're letting things cool down, then check the timing. Other than that I'm clueless! Could the 1st cat be plugged?

A rebuilt engine will put off more heat than one broken in... and a performance cam will usually make the engine run hotter. Most headers will tell you not to install them on a motor that hasn't been broken in. It could also be a plugged cat, but the temperatures of an engine breaking in are hot enough to make headers glow. I would bet that its just the temp of the engine on breakin.

Call off the fire! We let everything cool down and this time I made the old guy sit in the truck while I was under the hood. Sorry, I love the guy to death, he just wont admit he cant see like he used to. I found one plug wire loose, and the timing was around 6 deg retarded! AHHH! So, one tighten boot and 14 deg. advance later, she purrs like a kitten.
