back spacing

Probably a worn out subject. What back spacing would you all recommend for a 13.50 width tire? Most wheels I have looked at are in the 4.25-4.50 back spacing range. Thanks everyone!!

Depending on body style, you'll probably need at least 6".

Huh? 6" of backspacing?? I am sure they might make them but I haven't seen many wheels with 6" of backspacing. That sure would put the tire way under the fender well and probably make the inside sidewall of the tire rub on suspension components. Are you maybe talking about lift? My truck has a 2" body lift and I am getting ready to install a 4" susp lift so it will have 6" of total lift. I am going to run 36x13.50 Irok swampers and need to know what a proper backspacing would be. I would like to run Cragar Nomad rims, they come in 4.75 backspacing.

Sorry - I should have been more specific (darn work keeps interfering with my web'ing..).

My experience, on an '83 stepside, which may, or may not be that much different than yours, using Hoosier Pro Street 31x12.50x15's and 10" Cragar Soft 8's (4" backspace), the tires stuck out about 2" past the wheelwells. So, we ran it up on the lift, did some measuring down under there and determined that we could use 2" more backspace and still clear the springs, etc... I got Cragar involved and found out they can make me Soft 8's in the backspace I needed, then went through Summit to order. In my case, they cost about $20-25 more than the standard ones, each.

The wheels will be custom, and you'll probably have to contact Cragar to see just how much backspacing (they insist on calling it 'rear' space) you can get out of the wheels you want to use. Some of their wheels can be made with more backspace than others; for instance, I have Cragar S/S's on my '76, and will be installing the same, or larger, Hoosiers on it, so I figured I'd get S/S's with 6" backspace, but they can't make the S/S in 6" backspace.

I wouldnt think that the difference between a 4.25 and 4.75 would be a concern, as much as your sidewall height.
