Angry another o2 problem

Gentlemen,

I just added flowtech long tube headers, high flow cats, and 40 series mufflers to my 89 bronco (5.0) I have a problem with running too rich now. I have replaced most ignition to see if that was the problem. While running a bit better, still too rich. The o2 sensor was originally mounted into the catalytic converter and is now mounted right after one of the headers. My opinion is that the o2 sensor is not getting hot enough since the original was in the cat itself and both sides exhaust were heating it up. Does anyone know about a lower temp o2 sensor or even a electrical bypass that I can do. Thank you all!!!

hey i just checked summit, and the closest thing that i have found is http://store.summitracing.com/produc...earchtype=ecat but these are made for the 1996 OBDII cpu instead, just keep looking and i bet you can find what you want.

Correct me if I am wrong. You had left and right exhaust going into one pipe, your sensor, then your cat. cnvtr.

If you had a single exhaust, the 02 sensor was getting information from both pipes (and exhaust pulses) by being inside the single cat, before the element.

By putting it into the header pipe on one side, you have effectively cut off the left hand exhaust from being monitored. So, your CPU thinks both sides are running perfect and is making no adjustment for right and left cyl banks and pulses. When it is expecting an exhaust pulse to read, there is not one.

At the very least, you need to put in a cross over tube and mount the O2 sensor in that.

There are fancy dual 02 sensor setups to add, though I think that only applies to OBDII setups.

rebocardo,

When i did my dual exhaust, i made the misstake of not requesting any extra things like a crossover pipe and i had him simply place the o2 censor on the driversside exhaust. Does this make a diference in how my enigne is running? i did notice that one side of the exhaust is sputtering but the other side is doing fine. but then again, the side that is running fine is the driversside. is my odd engine performance just becasue i do not have a crossover and one side is alot more piping?
