Hi. I have a 88 Ford Bronco II, Eddie Bauer, 2.9 v6. I just had to replace 2 freeve plugs on the right side and now I am finding black sludge in the coolant resevior. I'm thinking that it may be the transmission cooling lines leaking, but am not sure. If it is, how much trouble is it to change them or how much to get it done. Bear in mind, I am not very mechanically minded. Thanks.
If the tranny lines are leaking, it should leak onto the ground. The sludge may have been build up that was in the block and came loose when the new freeze plugs were installed.
I hadn't thought about that. The reason I thought it might be the tranny lines is that my fluid has been running low and it started to hesitate shifting, especially downshifting around 35 mph.
For the tranny fluid shortage I'd still check the lines and everything. I myself will prolly have to get new cooling lines soon because the rubber from the lines are deeply gouged into the hose clamps, but they still don't leak, so I think they're gonna last for a bit still.
And BTW, where is the filler thingy for the tranny fluid whenever I have to fill it with fluid (in case it ran low or sumptin)?
