Next small fix is to replace my new struts on the rear glass with slightly longer ones. At 6'3" I can get my head under it now.
I found a thread that gave the info, but here's what I got from liftsupportsdepot.com

These appear to be for an Audi -- before I order them, I just wanted to be certain these are correct. Thanks for the info.
White Buffalo,
Yes it does, however the local dealer insists I don't have a problem. I didn't know it at the time but the previous owner is a good friend of the service writer. I finally got the work orders done on the truck before I got it. Back 25K miles ago or so an egr delete was put on the truck by the dealer (he furnished it, they installed it!). The guy took it to the dealer for everything -- diff. fluid change, trans fluid change, fuel service -- you name it. They are telling me that unless there is a geyser blowing out the bottle, don't worry about it. I did one of those block check things and it did change colors slightly. It is odd how many of those tickets say total bill $3K and the next line says "Insurance (3K)" and then total due $00.00. I want some of that insurance.

this was the part # of the ones I ordered in 2012 for my 2000 Excursion. Still working good!
These worked as well, the specs seem to be the same.
I, too, have a vibration issue I am chasing. It is at 75-76 MPH. Had the tires rotated and balanced and did not change at all that I can tell. My next look will be U-joints and then wheel bearings. Have you resolved yours or is it tolerable and you are on to bigger things?
Again, nice job.
I replaced a lot of stuff chasing that. I had the tires balanced several times, but they always came back with a lot of weights on them. New wheels and tires did the job. I also had a loose front wheel bearing. Probably from taking it off so many times looking at other stuff. Hate the integrated hub/rotors. Starts to vibrate very lightly around 85 now. I can live with it. Bigger issue is still the wandering steering. If this thing ever cooperated with me, I would do something about it. But it fights me every time I work on it. So I begrudgingly live with it. It's a job for another year
Check your pully/belt tensioner when you get the chance. When they go it tends to cause the belt to jump around and cause what you described. The belt part that is.
Sounds like you had a long day, hopefully you can chill and enjoy Christmas now!
Yeah, I checked it. Seemed OK. Normally I replace that stuff when doing a belt change. But it's Christmas time and I was already in for about $400 in parts. There was no play or grind from any of the idler pulleys. But I am paying attention for any squeaks or squealing. My OCD will probably get the better of me .. I will probably search the web for inexpensive parts. Had to pay local prices for all the other stuff.
Yeah, there are several different options. These are the longest option I found. They are still working great for me. My 5'2" wife does have a tough time with it so if she drove it regularly I'd have to go for something shorter. The first set of replacements I put on (the longer stock 2WD version) were right at the height where I would just about knock myself out on it when I stood up into it.
BTW, if you haven't already done it consider getting replacements for the hood also. Mine were right on the verge and wind could blow it closed. That really sucks!
Thanks for the reply. I conk myself often because it goes up to a certain point -- doesn't go up that last inch and a half unless you push it up -- then I am clear. Time for new ones. Good tip on the fronts -- I had really not noticed one way or the other -- I will check that.
One of the most aggravating things about this truck is that parts cataloging is horrific. I think 1 in 7 or 8 parts I get is wrong. Case in point, the seemingly simple belt tensioner. I decided to go ahead and order a tensioner and idler from rock auto. Ugghhh.
It's a pretty similar part. It fits ... well, it bolts on at least. The pulleys are in the wrong plane and the belt rubs on the tension release, but it does bolt on. This is how a simple 15 minute tensioner replacement turns into an hour or more and now isn't even done. Don't even get me started on front brake disks. Seems only Ford can get some things right, but I suspect that is their own fault somehow.
Last week I started up the truck on a cold morning ... eventually. So I did some testing and the glow plug relay is definitely bad. I'm not sure it's the only thing bad, but it gets a signal from the controller and doesn't energize the glow plugs.
So, I ordered up a new cheap one from Rock Auto. Got it today and went to install. Guess what ... yep, doesn't fit right. Not too happy with Rock Auto right now. I guess I can only order from them if I am 100% sure of the part number I'm ordering somehow. Grrr. I definitely cannot trust their catalog and they make me pay for return shipping.
I decided to get the monster one from diesel-o-rings. The *wrong* one from Rock Auto was less than half the price and I was adding it to another order so shipping was minimal. Except that it is wrong and I have to pay to ship it back.
I finally challenged the Excursion. I towed my friends enclosed race trailer 5 hrs. to VIR to race my Spec Miata. The Ex didn't do so well with the 9K+ trailer. The trailer has load leveling hitch, but the back of the Ex was still very saggy. I sort of expected that since I haven't done any spring upgrades. Towing the thing was horrible. It was all over the place. Scary. I didn't expect it to be great, but that was really bad.
Then comes the mileage. I bought a Diesel when gas prices were a little higher with the expectation that I might eventually get one of these enclosed car trailers. Diesels don't even notice them is what I was told. Wrong ... it got 10MPG. I have driven my buddies rig with this same trailer. He has an '05 Expedition. He gets 8MPG and it tows like a dream. The only thing the Ex did better was climb hills a little easier.
I was thinking this trip would re-invigorate me to finish up this thing, but alas the opposite happened.
