Hydraulic. Only very unusual engines came out of Detroit with a mechanical cam. Some of the Hemi's and the original Z28's come to mind.

All cams are mechanical, but some are hydraulic and some are solid.

Some engines that came with solid lift cams would be the DZ302 Chevrolet V8, the Z11 427 Chevrolet from 1963, the 272/292/312 Y block family built from 1954 to 1964, 279/302/317/332/341/368 Lincoln Y block family built from 1952 to 1963.

Now generally if it was built after 1970 odds are its a hydraulic lifter. Solid lifters were very rare post 1970. Like wise Hydraulic lifters were rare before the 1960`s.
