Difference in sound with sealed boxes.

Im drawing up plans for two ED12Os but am having a bit of trouble getting the 1.5 ft^3 that I wanted. So what will the difference be if I go smaller?

How much room can you give them? It really depends on how small, "small" is. The smaller the box, the more boomy the bass will be, and it won't drop quite as low. Efficiency is reduced, also. If you have an EQ, most of the "bomminess" can be eliminated. It really depends on small you can go. How much room are ya' working with? ED recommends .75-1.8 cuft. per driver. If you have to fall below .75 each, you may just want to run one Surely you have at least 1.5 for the pair...

What problems are you having getting the 1.5? How are you making the box? Downfire, forward, upfacing etc.

Well Im building it for the back of my Explorer Sport but Im trying to keep it under 1 foot tall so the cover will keep it concealed and also Id like to still have some room for stuff in the back I think ive got a way figured out but I gotta go measure. Im sure I could get .75 by smaller I was meaning more like 1.25 or maybe 1. THX

P.S. the subs will be at an angle either facing the back or facing each other one on each side of the back. Also to stay under the cover it has to be less than 12 inchs high.

What im thinking is i can build a box with one sub on each side of the vehicle and use some of the space above the wheel wells now also.

OK I got the dimensions for the subs drawn out just gotta find some way to mount the amps if anyone is interested I got the specs drawn up in Corel Draw. About the amps how bad it would be to have them stacked on top of each other maybe an inch or two seperating them Im planning on having at least two computer type fans to cool them with one blowing in and one blowing out at the ends of each amp but will it still get too hot?
Thx again for the help.

Alright after another hour and a half with Corel Draw (sure wish I had AutoCAD ) I have a design drawn up that will give just under 1.25 ft^3 but that is only if its ok to stack the amps Im thinking that 4 fans would give decent ventilation if i had two pulling in and two pushing out lined up so that the air will move down the length of the amps. Again thanks for the help.

P.S. would the draw from the fans have any significant impact on the power to the amps if I ran the power to the fans from the amp power cables?

Teamwizard they are actualy small box subs
Ed subs

You can put the amps close together. BTW what kind are they? Most new amps dont run as hot as the old ones did.

Here is how you can hook up the Fans

Amps are Kicker ZX460 so its a little older the one that will be pushing the subs is a phoenix gold octane R almost brand new.
