Hopefully most will know what a "TOAD" is. Towed vehicle.
Has anyone on FTE ever towed a manual (or 4WD) Ranger? I would love to have a truck again. Its got to tow 4 wheels down, preferably without any add-ons.
I was going to towd my 94 but wife could not shift due to stiff clutch, then add in that the thing has 300000+ miles and she wanted something newer/better.
On the rv net some are towing rangers. The tow mounts run about $400 from roadmaster. Yes the owners manual says to tow in neutrral for manuals and thats it. Cant say about 4x unless its also a manual with a manual control for the TC. There is then the possibility of leaving the trans in gear and neutral for the transfer case). Friend has a bronco and messed up as he had both in N and the trans still turned. Was later told to just put TC in neutral leave trans in gear. The owners manual will be best source of info. But if its an auto well all bets are off and none can be towed 4 and possibly 2 down as best I know.
I was towing a 94 Ranger 5speed manual, behind my 26' B+ MH. I had the Roadmaster Falcon 2 tow bar and 9700 Mobile Braking System. When they first hooked it up the tail lites were kind of dim; when I got back from my trip I had to put diodes in each tail light. I would unlock the steering wheel and put the trans in N. Worked great. Good thing I had a rearview camera or I would have forgotten it was behind me. Don't know much about 4X4.
forgot to add earlier, be careful of what vehicle you will use. My 94 SC 2wd weighs close to 4000 lbs and that will place a good load on some rv's. Most are rated for a 5000lb tow and 300 lb limit on the hookup. so this will also add to the total gross of the tow vehicle and may limit your load plans.
