Acccumulator vs. Drier

I have an 03 F-250 with a 6.0 Diesel. How do I know if it has an A/C accumulator vs drier? I was told it had an accumulator. But when I go to replace it (as part of the compressor replacement) it doesnt have the same fittings as the part that came off it.

Accumulator took place of the reciever dryers from years ago. just about everything on the road has an accumulator on it. witch is nothing more than a chamber were excess oil is stored and a desicant bag which helps pull moisture out of the system. you need to find out if this is a factory installed air, an aftermarket system installed by the dealer, or a system installed by someone else, there should be a sticker under the hood that tells you what you have, you could also have a mid year break were they changed some parts, make sure you give them the production date when you order your parts.

It looks like I had the wrong part. Got the correct Accumulator and now all is well. I went from working on a 74 F-100 to an 03 F-250 so I'm having to learn a lot. Thanks for the info.
