7.3 VS 2015 6.7 TUG OF WAR QUESTIONS
I was at a horse show last weekend and got into a conversation with a 1995 F250 4WD, 18 year old owner, who claimed his "chip" modified 7.3 with claimed 80#s of boost could drag my 2015 6.7 King Ranch with electric locking axle 4WD across the parking lot. Being the cool thinker I am, I said, "you got a chain?" "Sure old man" Well I said, "those things can snap and hurt someone and besides if I break your u-joints who will pull your trailer home?"
So the challege was off , If it comes up again,
1. Should a current model 6.7 be able to do it? I was thinking the issue would be traction, so would I want my hitch to be lower than his?
2. Would LR we better to use or maybe manual 3rd lock in HR because of the touque the 6.7 has? I know once wheels spin it's over
3. Any advise or pointers to win are welcome. I am not in a hurry to do this, but sometime you have to put youngin's in their place.

My truck weighs just about 7k lbs, in crew cab long bed form.
No "chip" will take a 7.3 to 80 psi of boost without a lot of supporting mods.
Truck comes with 215hp stock, so just a "chip" will prob get 10-20HP more.
Not ******* the truck, but a mans gotta know his limitations, esp before opening his mouth.

Old bull and a young bull standing on a bluff overlooking a herd of cows.
Young Bull says, "Why don't we run down there and have our way with one of them cows?"
Old Bull says, "Why don't we walk down there and have our way with all of them cows!"
Tell him to put his johnson back inside his garanimal underoos.

Mine is a crew 172WB, I found it hard to belive you could add 80# boost to a stock 7.3, they are good motors, but every motor has it's limits. when he wanted to do it, I started thinking about all the technical aspects like the angle of the chain traction ect. You can have more power but if it don't get to the ground, it's worthless.

I am no authority on diesel engines, but, the 'tuner' that's in the '99 F250 SD PowerStroke that I bought 'supposedly' will allow gains of 100 to 120 hp, when programmed.
The previous owner strongly suggested that I have the transmission re-built and 'beefed up' before pushing the limits.
Now, I don't participate in 'games' like those being discussed, but, IF "I" were to participate, I'd let some air out of the tires (to gain a wider footprint) and add some weight over the rear axle.
Remember..... spinning tires don't have traction. Tires (affectionately called "Ground Grippers" around here) that 'bite into' the surface, does.

I've met quite a few young guys who have a big mouth and are totally clueless. (Being I'm young myself) I can think of 2 right off the bat. One went from having a 4cyl Toyota pickup to having a '86 f250 with the 6.9. He always was talking trash and saying how his truck would outrun out-pull and do everything bigger faster and better than any other truck. A friend and I eventually got tired of listening to him and showed him what's what. We accepted his offer to race against my buddy's Tuned 7.3. We totally smoked him of course. Absolutely no competition from the ol 6.9. But that only led him to make excuses for why he lost, saying we jumped the light and whatnot.
You just can't work with some people.

Aren't "tug of war" pulls about traction. If your 1000lb/ft truck loses traction(ie wheels breaking loose) then the 500 lb/ft that's 1500lbs lighter would pull it of its tires have full traction. I don't believe everything I see on YouTube but I've seen enough "big dogs" lose to lesser trucks. Mainly because the losers truck breaks traction first.

i saw something similar when i was a wee lad, this guy had a brand new chevy one ton dually with a 454. Bragging about how much power it had and he could out pull anything. My uncle bet him a $100 he couldnt out pull his old beat v8 ford e250 box van. He smugly said bring it ole man. They hook up in the street and my uncle proceeded pulled him all over the place with his tires just a smoking. What he didnt realize was that my uncles old beat up e250 box van had about 2000lbs of tools in the bed of it, (can you say traction?) while his dually had no weight on it at all. Should have seen the look on that guys face.....priceless....

A truck tug of war has nothing to do with power or what engine you have. There are plenty of videos on youtube of people pulling full on big rigs with 14+ liter engines with their super duty. It's all about traction, and more importantly, skill. You could have the better truck and still lose if you don't know how to drive it.
