Strange noise
I have a 1990 F250, 4x4, 5.8, E40D. I'm hearing a noise from the passenger floorboard area. It's hard to explain, but sounds like a cross between fluid splashing and crinkling tin foil. I recently changed the oil pan gasket and had the exhaust dropped down. I didn't go by the book and remove everything, just raised the motor enough to drop the pan down and work the new gasket in place. Saved me a lot of time. Anyway, the exhaust is still tight and I fixed a couple of loose heat sheilds. No fluid leaking out anywhere. It is most noticable when first taking off and accelerating. If anyone has any ideas, I would sure appreciate them.

the only thing i can think of is the smog pump. It runs a line through that area and into your cat. Perhaps you have an oil or water leak that is dripping down the outside of the hose onto the cat. Its an idea. What else could be coming from the passenger floor board... i have no idea. But the cat is pretty much the only thing in that area that I think could be causing noise.
As far as sloshing noise or crinkling, sounds more like a power steering problem. However thats more like driver side. Check the fluid level.

That tube from the smog pump is ok. Radiator is down an inch or so, I'll top that off this morning and try it. I'm leaning toward loose ceramic in the cat. Front converter is the only one left and we pounded on it pretty hard putting a pipe in place of the other one. I don't know but I got that idea from someone elses problem I read in this forum. Thanks for the replies.
