E4OD speedo issues

I recently bought a 89 F-250 2WD 7.3 IDI with the E4OD. The speedometer has not worked since the day I bought it and under light throttle the transmission shifts thru all gears fine. But when I get in to the throttle some the transmission shifts crazy. It will shift up then back down a couple times. I figured this is tied to the speedometer. So I pulled the cable/vss from the side of the transmission and the driven gear looks good but to my surprise there was no drive gear in the transmission which leads me to believe that someone has swapped the transmission at some point in the trucks life to a newer transmission (post 1992) which no longer has the gear on the output shaft.

I am not looking to completely disassemble the tranny to replace the output shaft. Is there anyway I can utilize the rear abs speed sensor in the differential to take the place of the one in the transmission. The speedometer is not important just the functionality of the transmission.

I searched this forum and could not find anything that match this problem.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

oh man.someone else will need to help you,but i think your options will be to fix the ring gear issue or use (even more expensive) run an aftermarket E40D controller (i dunno why they have those things priced several hundred.)
hopefully someone else has a better idea for ya but without a PSOM,i don't see how the rear abs/vss will help ya out any (without an aftermarket controller.)

whatever you do,don't keep driving it like that.the trans control unit is lost without the vehicles speed and can't tell the trans what to do correctly without this vital info.trans failure will result.
