Also, when checking/changing plugs, it's certainly not running rich, plugs looked good. It just feels like "it's holding back, loss of power on acceleration or load". I feel I've ruled out electronics, although I guess I could replace the cap and wires which were new last year, just hit and miss.
Thanks Redroad, since I didn't get a lot of sleep last night thinking about this, I thought I may also check the fuel pump. I may do that first before taking the carb off. I might have a spare lying around.

Certainly we can't rule an aging fuel pump out .. Don't worry you'll get it sorted ..
Well........when it was all said and done..........the fuel pump made it run. I was a bit suprised as the pump I had in the truck was not that old (couple years). Apparently there was just not enough pressure for fuel supply under acceleration or load, just enough to get you around town. Glad it was something that simple. Thanks for all the help!! Terry

Your welcome Terry .. I'm Glad you got it sorted .. Have a great time with the grand kids .. John
did you replace the coil ? I had similar problem and it ended up being the coil was failing when truck got up to temperature and heated the coil . Just don't buy the Autozone /pepboys coil they are junk

Yeah, that's a good point and it is always good to have a spare when you go on a trip .. Ask me how I know
I found out the hard way about the cheap made in china coils , bought one and it died two days after install , i replaced it with a nasty looking ford coil out of my junk parts box from my Mustang .
Looking on the net I think that Standard products are now produced in china, it sucks that you have to search the web to find a USA made product anymore.

That's so true and makes me sad for american workers .. Greed at the top and exploiting a 3rd world labor market .. Even Napa is into it .. I swear if there was one parts supplier that only sold U.S. made parts I think they would do well but we hardly have a choice anymore .. I for one go out of my way to find U.S. made parts ..
The little *******s are back. I made it camping with the grandkids but on the trip home it started the same thing all over again, missing, loss of power, stumble, etc. etc. I've almost at the end of the line on what I can think of, I might try a different carb tomorrow, I'm at a loss. New cap, rotor, coil, fuel pump, ignition module. Funny thing is it ran like a top all the way to the camp pulling a 25' trailer. I've tried checking for vacuum leaks, messed with the timing, etc. Checked for loose, burnt wires. Plugs look great, light ash color, certainly not oily or fouled. Plenty of spark from the coil to distributor. May have to concede and take it to a shop to see if they can diagnois anything. Getting real close to Miller time out!!
