Spring packs question

Hello, I am new member here and I have a question on an f350. I went to the local ford dealer yesterday to look at the new f350. They had two and one was a super cab lariat and the other was a crew cab lariat. Both were 11,500 gvwr packages. The spring pack on the crew cab had 2 main, a helper underneath and a helper on top. The super cab had 3 main, a helper underneath and a helper on top. However on the crew cab the helper on top was bent more so that it would come into effect earlier in the suspension travel. Does anyone know why the differences in the two? I really hate suspension sag so getting the crew cab with 2 main leafs instead of 3 makes me leery. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. (just a side note, this will be my first ford)

Thank!

Not real sure about the springs, are they both the same wheel base? Anyway, hope you enjoy the Ford.

These are for the 2012 MY trucks, but I'm sure the 2014 models are the same. The spring pack ratings are identical between the 5 and 4-leaf packs. As you can see the 5-leaf pack deflects easier during the first stage but much harder during the third stage. By the time either of them hits the third stage you're already sagging.

I wouldn't worry about the difference between them. You can't count leaves and assume spring strength. My '07 Kenworth had a 12,000 lb front axle that was held up by two leaves on each side.

Thanks for the replies. So the main difference seems to be in the 3rd stage of the springs. I would think the crew cab would have the 5 pack being a heavier rig but maybe they figure the super cab is used for work more.

I don't think either of those assumptions are fair. All of them are rated for the same weight at the ground; you can't say one is heavier duty than the other. Remember the 5-leaf pack will sag sooner than the 4-leaf pack. If sag is a major concern of yours buy the truck you like and install air bags if you're not happy with the rear suspension performance. You say that's a big deal to you, and believe me it will be sagging by the time the third stage engages.
