Possibly, but they'll have an airbag. You certainly can't go older. Do you have cruise?

ya i have cruise but no airbags. i was thinking of getting the wheel off of a truck that had the bags deployed so that i could just put the cover back on with no bag in there. would that work?

No. The airbag wheel doesn't use the cover that yours does. You'd have to leave the airbag in it and hope the cruise button connector is the same.

Your best bet is to get a direct-replacement '92-93 non-airbag wheel.

Excuse the newbie here, but why is it fully neccessary to not have a air bag? Does the seat sit too close or what?

'92's didn't have air bags therefore the deployment system does not exist in the truck. There is no real reason to avoid putting an airbag equipped wheel into them but it will be useless and as Steve mentioned its hit-and-miss as to whether the cruise control connector remained compatible after the airbag was added in later years. And I don't know if anyone has priced those things lately but they're ANYTHING but cheap. A lot of expense (unless you pop one from a boneyard donor truck) just to replace the steering wheel. I have considered reupholstering the wheel in my own '92. Just haven't gotten around to it.

Ah, I see, so there's not anything really troublesome with it execept for the CC risk.

Do you guys just not know anyone that tried to convert a newer wheel, or is it a wheel by wheel guesswork?

It has been discussed in this forum before, but I do not believe that successful results have ever been posted. If anybody has done this, speak up! Darn airbags... I never thought that it was a good idea to have a controlled explosion in your face while you were busy wrecking your vehicle.

You could just remove the air bag unit from the steering wheel.
As for the cruise control, the wiring could be figured out and sliced with out using the oem plugs.

Ah, I'm just perusing the idea.

I have an older wheel with a cover on it, but the sonofabitch squeeks when I turn it, any ideas??

This was solved in the '67-72 forum by Gtex:
"The Expy wheels are 5x135mm bolt pattern."
According to him, it all changed after '96.

That sounds like you're referring to lug pattern - not steering wheel mounting.

OK, I took at look at things while at the junkyard on Monday. As we know, the Broncos and corresponding F-series use the cylinder with the two flat sides to mount the steering wheel. The '97+ vehicles use a cylinder with a notch on each side to mount the steering wheel. I didn't bother looking at the wiring after that.
