Custom tunes

Hey guys

Just got a SCT X4 and have been running the canned tunes and like them a lot! Mainly the "street" tune because the "performance" tune is pretty smoky for stop and go traffic around town...

Truck in sig...05' cc 4x4 8" lift 37" tires, stock 3:73 gears, ARP studded, EGR still hooked up (Damm California), blue spring mod, intake and 4" turbo back exhaust...I just want a nice daily driver tune that will run good day in day out but will also run hard when I feel the need mash the skinny pedal to get around some yuppie driving their Prius!

With that being said I am getting ready to pull the trigger on some custom tunes! Right now leaning toward the Gearhead SRL, 8k tow package...still kinda going back and forth if I want the SRL or SRL+?? Or Extreme SRL?? I'm not looking for the fastest time down the quarter mile or big dyno numbers either like I said just a nice DD... Also a "safe" tune! I know any tune adds stress to the engine and nothing is 100% safe but not looking to really test my luck with a race tune just because I'm studded and "should" be able to get away with more...

Anyone have any opinions here? Or another tuner to recommend? I have heard a lot of good things about the SRL for a long time now which is why I'm leaning that direction...

Would also like to hear from anyone running these tunes...

Thanks guys!

If I were studded I might try higher than SRL, but being that I am not, I loaded the SRl and can only say wow. So I could only imagine, BTW what strategy is on your truck currently?

Thanks!

I would like to know what the difference is between the SRL and Extreme also, they don't really say on the website other than "if your craving more"....

strategy is VXCF7NZ

Someone that has extreme can chime in, as I don't have that one.

I have the Unlimited tow, 8k tow, and SRL. I keep the 8k loaded all the time, even when towing the 5er, I keep a close eye on all my temps and never had an issue. Highest EGT's Ive seen was about 1300. Like Raptor said Ive never used the SRL so I cant speak of the EGT's.

If you run it post the results, I will be studding mine this winter so it may be on the plate for me to run it next year.

Don't load the SRL, you won't want to go back

Well just pulled the trigger and ordered the SRL+,8k tow, unlimited tow package!! Called and talked to them this morning, very knowledgeable and helpful guys! Took their time answering all my stupid questions and made me feel like I'm in good hands with their support!
I'll report back when I get them loaded in the truck. Really excited to see what all the fuss is about with the custom tunes!!!

They said the extreme SRL tune is for studded trucks with upgraded fuel systems and puts down +15hp and +75tq over the SRL+ tune...

Also open to any other tunes that are out there...would love to hear from anyone running something other than I posted! The X4 holds 10 custom tunes so I plan on trying out some more.

Thanks guys!

How does the truck run while towing a heavy trailer on the 8k tune? I have the same set of tunes, but I always switch back to unlimited tow before hooking up my 10k TT. I might need to try the tow tune out the next time I hook up. Can you tell a difference between that one and the unlimited tow?

I too went safe and put in the unlimited tow tune, but I heard somewhere that it was really just a trans tune and not much more, with all the gauges I have I'm going to try the 8k when towing my 8k empty trailer and see how it does.

Honestly it tows awesome,

I had Matt keep my boost maxed at 28psi, so the only thing I keep an eye on while climbing is my EGT's. First trip out with the new injectors and PM was a learning curve. This thing pulls so well that it wont kick the tranny down, so I just give it a little more throttle and when it kicks down a gear my EGTs fall right back below 1000* quick.

The most I have ever seen pulling with the set up I have now is about 1280-1350* and that was for a very short time.

Good info to know! i have stock injectors, but am running an MTW stage 1 turbo and also an FICM tune. I'll keep an eye on boost and EGTs the next time I hook up and see how she runs!
