My auto hubs are on their last legs on my 95 Bronco, and the Warn Premium manuals I ordered haven't arrived yet. Is there a way I can get some driveability out of my limping truck before the hubs show up? Maybe taking off the front driveshaft, anything? I'm still in the process of moving from one apartment to the other, and my Bronco was my means of transportation and moving, so this couldn't have happened at a worse time. Is the truck still fine to drive, even though every time I go from forward to reverse and vice versa I hear the hubs clicking and grinding, and when I turn while braking I get bangs coming from whichever hub is outboard? Now, I also need to have the balljoints replaced, so maybe that's part of it, but if something gives will the truck be stranded? I'm getting a little concerned.
ps - about how long does it take for 4wheelparts to ship things? I ordered my Warn hubs last Wed.
If the autos are unlocked, you shouldn't have to do anything. Just keep going in 2WD and you should be fine. I think all those noises are from the ball joints. The hub locks will never disable the truck - the worst would be that the caps fall off & you get a little grease exposed, but that's no big deal since you'll repack the hubs when you replace the locks.
There are some horror stories about 4WPW, but I've never had trouble dealing with them over-the-counter. Why didn't you just buy some at a local parts store? I got some MileMarkers at O'Reilly for $60 with the same LLT warranty as Warn, and they've taken all the abuse I've put them through. (Including driving in FWD with the rear d'shaft out.)
