Two questions

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-May-02 AT 04:09 PM (EST)]I got my truck checked out by a mechanic today before I bought it and everything is good except two things. One is the tires will need to be replaced in a couple months(no biggy), but they say the shocks will also need to be replace by inspection time(August).

1)The truck has 76k miles on it, is this normal for shocks to wear out around now? and also how much do new shocks cost and how hard would they be to put on to a newbie to cars?

2)On the speedometer there is a redline at 55 or 60 mph. What does this indicate?

Edit: Oh yeah, how do I take a camper top off?

Two questions

Hello there.

My 90 recently passed the 72K mark, and yes, it is normal for the shocks to wear out about at that time. For me, the fronts were the worst, and the only one's that were replaced.

The redline on the speedo is something that most cars have. before maybe four or five years ago, most highwways were speed limited to 55mph. The redline is there to tell you that you are speeding(which is fun, just dont get caught....duh).

Hope this helps!

fiend,
Did you but that Bronco?
My oem shocks sucked at only 10 miles (state hiway felt like a roller coaster); esp the front. Went to KYB Gas-Adjusts; much better!
If you have the Bronco, look here for top removal:

F-150 is set up the same way as the bronco. If you have a set of metric sockets, wrenches, and a can of "PB blaster" (used to help loosen bolts, can be found at any auto store). Air tools make it a lot easier. If you're really new to wrenchin' i'd suggest you have it done by someone who knows how.

Primary rig is:
95' F-150 EB 300/6 5 spd with 4" Superlift, MSD, Ram Air, Gibson Exhaust, 32" BFG Muds
THERE ARE SOME PICS IN MY GALLERY!! :-)

Then theres:
88' F-250 Superduty 351 + c6
95' Mercury Cougar 4.6L V-8
80' E-350 300/6 and a
3 spd column shifter. Top speed, 65mph, Go Baby Go!

The newest addition to the Ford family is a 99' Mustang GT 4.6L
