Well now that's is warm out I figured I would do the heater core. WOW! what a project! Fixed a bunch of stuff along the way. Under the drivers side kick panel I found a green fuzzy 7 wire connecter. Ford wanted me to buy a whole wiring harness so I snipped the plug and put waterproof connectors on the wires. Now my power seat and door locks work again. My door locks work now but now my keyless remote does not. Is there a plug behind the dash that controls the remote that I missed plugging back in? I put new batteries in the remote and had it tested at the parts store and all is good. Also my tach still doesn't work and found nothing wrong when I pulled the dash. All in all it was a project but went quite well and only broke the shifter cable when the steering colum dropped too far down. Thanks for all the help in the past threads that I read to do the initial research on how to do it. I also found that the blend door was broken and actually found a dealer open on Sat. at 3:00. I figure I saved myself about $1200.00 in labor and spent about $110.00 in parts. Took about 6 hours to dismantle and 5 to put it all back together.
I did the same job 2 years ago, during January and February. It was freezing cold. Took me several weeks on and off (drove the explorer). Same as you replaced the worn blend door (eBay) and broke that shifter cable that everyone warns about.
You are right what a job. I had 3 screws left over, and have put up with a squeak behind the glove box for two years. This summers project.
This is a job for more than the mere mechanic, congrats again.
