Pop the cover and let the oil fly! Gives you the opportunity to inspect all the internals. And will only cost you a gasket.
And lube.

'65 diffy.

Hi,
I had the ring and pinion go bad on my '65 F-100. When the banjo was m.t., I cleaned the whole thing out with gas. let it dry out good for a couple days. Then took my torch and burned a hole in the banjo bottom. Cleaned up the slag with a grinder and then welded a 2,000# threaded 90deg elbow over the new hole. So that I can drain the oil every 50,000 miles. The banjo is not thick enough (material) to stand any threads. This is why I welded a forged grade fitting (threaded) on the bottom. This has worked well for me. I used a 3/32, 7018 welding rod if you were wondering. Don't use any 60's series welding rod. There is not enough carbon in that series. The forged fittings need the higher carbon out of position rod. The weld will crack if a 60 series rod is used. Hope this helps, Cheers, Pete

welcome to FTE florida65 the only main advise i can give you is if your truck has sit for a while you might pop off your valve covers and look at your valve guide seals (they are under the valve springs) my 67s 352 (smokenchoke) had sit for 15 years and the valve guide seals had gotten hard/brittle broke all to pieces and filled my entire motor and all the oil ports with little hard rubber chunks and it caused all sorts of grief ..... you can just use a flashlight to get a good look at them and see if they are broken/cracked/gone and quite a few smoking motors only smoke because of this and the owners never know....

..... another thing is the timing chain gears on these 352's have nylon on them (factory noise reduction) and after sitting or long use they break apart and fill the pan with little yellow chunks that plug and fill your tranny pan and can lock up your oil pump see how some of the yellow is missing in this pic?

1965 F100 Camper Special: Three different rear axles available.

1) Ford 9 inch: No inspection cover, no Limited Slip, no drain plug.

2) Spicer/Dana 44: Inspection Cover, Limited Slip, 358048-S Drain Plug-3/4" -14.

3) Spicer/Dana 60.2: Inspection Cover, Limited Slip, 358048-S Drain Plug-3/4" -14.

OP says his F100's rear axle has no drain plug, so it's a Ford 9 inch.

thankyou that lets me know that its a 9" rear, my mechanic friend who is all over this thinks that the trick to drainig the diffy is removing one of the studs on the bottom. he remebers that it only leaves about a half ich of oil in it. i do industrial maintenance and my thoughts was to drill and tap it if it is thick enough.
