Need help ignition switch
My actuator broke in my steering column it is the diecast metal part the lets the rod slide up and down in the column for the ignition switch. I can get it out because it is in 2 pieces but can't get the old one in because there is not enough clearance. Anybody that knows what I am talking about, can you give me an idea how to disassemble it further to be able to put the accuator(that is what ford calls it) back in. My truck is a 1990 f-150 with tilt wheel. Thanks for any help and if I am not clear about this please let me know....

I'm not sure if the actuator rod itself can be replaced by itself. My 89 w/ tilt broke and I had to have another column put in. I now have a straight column and hate it. Let me know if you can just replace the rod so I can curse at the guy that told me it couldn't be replaced without replacing the column.

Are you already disassembled to actuator? From this point all that is left is the piviot pins on each side. There is a special tool but if you can find a threaded bolt to fit they can be wiggled out with pliers. Also a snap ring on column shaft. I remove the whole flange assembly off the spring and column but have heard of just moving it enough to work with the actuator. Anything else just ask, a lot of use know how to do this.

I have dissassembled many of them just pull the pivo
pins and snap ring and its easy from there just remember
where everything goes and use some good grease on the
actuator to prevent it from breaking again
