starting problem

I just got a '78bronco ranger xlt and it started great for the first few weeks, then it started acting up.its got a new starter, solenoid, and battery.
I had the charging system tested and he said it was good but my batt. wont keep a charge. i think its the wiring. it has some jerryrigged wires.
1 comes off the positive side of the solenoid and is just wrapped around another wire. That wire is connected to the altenator and it says batt. under it.
that wire i think goes to my inigtion, its cut and pushed together with the wire from the solenoid and wrapped in electrical tape.my truck will start sometimes and other times drain my battery and ill have to jump start it.
so my question is where does the wire from the solenid go and could that be draining my battery. Im 17 and as u can tell i dont know to much but any help would be great.

Honestly, I'd recommend getting a Haynes manual and going over the wiring for the whole engine compartment. It sounds like somebody rigged a lot of things together to get it run (most of the time).

The last thing you want is a fire because of a short.
