On my last oil change I ran into a problem. There was a spring and a small metal ring inside the oil filter. I removed the spring and ring and am having a hard time find part numbers(and I know I need to replace more than the spring and ring). In the mean time, I'm driving truck. Temp. is o.k. and so is oil pressure. I need help find parts #'s and to understand what the F*** happened. Thanks :
If I'm not mistaken I believe the two pieces that you have found are part of the oil cooler that the filter mounts to. I am of course assuming that you are working on a Diesel. If I remember correctly they are for a anti-drain back valve? If you take off your oil filter there is a hole that the spring goes into, then the disc and you will notice that the disc used to be pinged in the aluminum. You can reinstall these parts and carefully ping the disc lightly back in so it will not fall down again but you should be able to push up on it. This information is of course if I am correct in assuming that this is a diesel.
Hope this helps,
P.S. good eyes!! A lot of Ford lube techs miss these important parts during an oil change. Again if this is a diesel?
