I am new to this site and would like some help. I have a 1985 f250 4wd and have completely restored this truck about 20k invested and I would like to install the hostage 18x9 chrome pvd wheels. my issue is the rear hub is to large and from what the wheel dealer told me there will be a fairly large space between the cap and the rim. I don't want to cut anything or run wheel spacers. I was thinking about making something maybe from aluminum and get longer bolts to fasten the cap to the wheel. has anyone done this and if so any tips ideas or pics would be great. thanks alot
also does anyone know what wheels will work without modifications other than the traditional bullet style or there alike? does anyone know the rear hub size on the 85 f250? thanks again
Couldnt say on that, but I just want to know if this truck is restored then why are you wanting to know about aftermarket rims? Thats not a restoration but a restomod, a restoration is putting it back to new condition as it came from the factory.
No offense, but you can call it what you like. its restored to my liking. I am just looking for some sound advice from folks that may have dealt with the same issue. Any sound advice is greatly appreciated.
As you said, no offense intended. You can call it what you want, and you can even call it a Chevy. But Rusty is right - restored is the accepted term when put back as it originally was. Restomod is what I'm doing to Dad's truck as I dont like how it originally was and want to improve it.
Along those lines I was at a big time classic car auction recently and snapped this pic of one guy's idea of restoration:
Some people are more **** than others, your f-250 has the HD full floating rear axle, Give National tire and wheel a call, there out of virginia, they have seen it all. maybe if you let them know you have the oversized hubs, they have the fix. David7.3
thanks david 7.3 I appreciate the advice and will call them. as far as the other topic my truck is 90 percent original. I just would like some nice rims on it. the way I look at it the man who built the truck/car can call it anything he wants. I have built this truck to suit me and don't intend on parting with it. I just love the older ford trucks. I grew up in the seventies and eighties and my dad owned nothing but fords. To me there is ford and then everything else whether its restored or resto-mod or a just a beat up old wood truck!
The Corvette guys gouge their freshly painted control arms with tow hooks so they mimic the look as they would have been on the showroom floor... That's ****...
In my mind stock or mostly stock = restored. Adding factory options and any popular bolt on's at the time is A-OK for me; including rims. The line blurs after that but I don't get too concerned about the title until the guys says something like "fully restored with 6BT swap, all original condition..." Yeah, that's when I start calling a resto-mod. That 49 Chevy definitely falls into that category, but he would be correct to say the body was 100% restored.
im with you on that. the only think that isn't original on my truck is A) the hood I purchased a 2 inch cowl hood from goodmark but I kept the original. b) The wheels and I stroked the original 351w to a 408stroker and did complete rebuild. I rolled it using comp cams retrofit along with roller rocker arms and lifters also installed a good solid extreme energy camshaft. I purchased the 408 kit from coast high performance and had it balanced. topped it off with afr renegade cylinder heads 185cc runner for low and mid range tourque, I also installed edelbrock rpm air gap intake and holley 770 street avenger. all new aluminum pulleys and 28oz aluminum harmonic balancer. I am rebuilding the tranny (C-6) As we speak. also ordering 2800 stall from precision industries. HOPEFULLY SHE'LL GET UP AND GO!
I found a solution to my center cap issue. after speaking with at least ten different wheel dealers elite wheels set me up. as unknown to me as well as to every other dealer I spoke with fuel makes a spacer prefit for the older large hubs on our fords. it just simply mounts to back of center cap and bolt it on. ill let you know how they fit when I get them.
