You got all that from having a FB account (your words) "for about a day"?

Like what? Citations please? (not rumors......)

We've all heard the stories about the folks getting in trouble at work, getting fired......felons getting arrested......etc. Well excuse me.....but if you have a supervisor from work as a 'friend'.....and you promptly start blaring about how work sux and your boss is an idiot....then you get what you deserve.........

One of the huge downsides there is they tend to retreat into their computers rather than get out and participate in the real world.
You obviously have your ***** in an uproar for some reason over FB.....and are bothered by folks for whom this is true. Why do you care?

To the highlighted point....I'm not sure anyone's really spending any time with that as a selling point......Folks join and stay for a million different reasons......and participation levels vary. Some even 'work' within FB.....and I have a couple of friends who use it (quite effectively, I might add) for their animal rescue/fostering networking.

Don't throw stones. And again....provided you were telling the truth in your first post regarding your 'experience' within FB......well.....you really don't have any.....

Again. Why should this bother you?

You're always going to have people where this is the case.

(you might even find some of this on FTE......)

Unless you're so clueless as to believe that FTE isn't a form of social media......and that it doesn't share some of the same characterists as FB......

(unless I'm mistaken, FTE predates FB)........

Those quick to say Facebook haters don't get it typically fail to understand not everyone needs or wants what it offers.
Why should this bother you (again)???

You know, you can control who you interact with....and what you read on FB.....right?

You seem to know suspiciously more than someone who had an account "for about a day".........

I wonder who many Facebook members really understand just how deep all this goes? I also wonder how much activity about the NSA was part of the "Facebook conversation" while at the same time exposing themselves to more and more information gathering that was then sold to advertisers? Oh, the irony huh?
You're all over the place here......

The only revenue stream I know about is the 'Club FTE' membership I pay for here......FB is free. Regarding banners and ads and such, it's probably worse here than on FB.

Regarding the NSA.....

Just remember. This isn't just 'FTE' anymore, privately owned by Ken Payne. It's owned by Internet Brands....and you might want to check THEIR history of 'cooperation' with the Gov't before getting smug.

***C'mon, JWA. Fess up. How long were you on FB? You can tell us. You'll look dumber sticking to the "for about a day" thingee and acting like you know what you're talking about with FB than if you come out and admit to being there for awhile before being banned for stalking or something.......

I'm not on facebook. Tried it for a month and found it to be a waste of time.

However,

About a month ago a local talkshow host was talking about facebook and twitter being excellent tools to get the word out about upcoming political events, to forward articles to people. I'm sure Steve can back me up on this too. Apparently there are some really good people that write some great political stuff on facebook that would otherwise never be heard.

So, while I choose to not participate, I have recently learned that it can, and is, a great tool for some folks.

One of our local 'Talkies' was talking about it the other day. He joined about a year ago.......and he went over how he was a nay-sayer on the Twitter and FB thing......But now he's 'in'. Mentioned some of the stuff you just did (he also does charity rides (motorcycles) and stuff).......and mentioned some of the OTHER stuff the naysayers here did. The frivolity......the folks who do nothing BUT assault their sounding boards with political ads and banners and stuff.......BUT.

He's the classic example of what I mentioned.....All of the "I'll never do that crap" folks who assume stuff and just plain don't know what they're talking about......Who'd never joined to begin with or gave it a shot (or if you believe JWA........Joined "for about a day"........).

Again. And anyone on this thread who actually knows about FB knows this.....

Un-friending.....Un-following.....blocking certain things....etc.....are as easy as 1, 2, 3. If something annoys you or is becoming bothersome.....well. Get rid of it or ignore it...

Just like here.

I don't understand all the hub bub over FB users. Hell, I was telling a person the other day that I'm an active user on FTE and he looked at me like I should get a life.

FB, twitter and the like aren't the issues here, it's the people that allow them to control their lives that are the issues.

I can see it now: "I posted something this morning and I didn't get 30 likes by lunch, my day is shot to hell, oh what will I do?"

I love how you quoted one of my comments and emboldened part of it but selectively left out the "IMHO anyway." portion---that's rich!

I'm glad to see one guy taking such an interest in my FB drivel, trying for who knows what other than proving me "wrong"? Fair enough..........'tis what 'tis. I stand by my comments regardless how much "all over the place...." they might be.

I'll revise my "account for a day..........." and admit it was perhaps for a week, certainly no longer. Even in that sort time and as someone completely without any real info provided other than absolutely necessary I was pretty much bombarded with "friend requests" by those I'm assuming wanted only to up their "friend" count. (FWIW I joined only to find a long lost co-worker, after making personal contact the profile was changed as previously noted, essentially rendered unviewable and non-existent.)

Enjoy this banter----I'll post it on my wall ASAP!
