I used an Ididit steering column. The key is on the dash and the shifter is on the floor. Here's a similar one with a column shifter: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/id...0010/overview/

I have the paint grade Ididit tilt without switch or shift (I have a 6 speed stick with floor shift). I do not like a shiny steering column, it's not something I want to draw attention to.
I am using a Grant medium dish 15" wheel with Ididit adapter.

I went with a 1978 Ford van column. Tilt, no key in the column, AT, and only $9 at the scrap yard. I did have to shorten it by 8" though.

Thanks,
Mine came just plain unfinished steel. I painted it to match my dash.

Here ya go, only 99.00 includes steering wheel, just need excess bracketry trimmed off, shortening and painting. Not a major job.

That is basically what I went with, except if you can find one from a 78-9 van, you can have tilt and no key to deal with. It was a pain to find a wiring diagram (believe it or not, not everything people say on the internet is true), but I finally did find one. I had a Speedway 20 circuit harness that came with a Chev connecter, so I had to redo the wiring. Not difficult once I found the proper Ford diagram.

The columns are long, so I ended up cutting 8 or so inches off to get the proper fit in my 50.

Check your local scrap yards - I got mine for $9 and it was easy to pull. If you go this direction, keep track of the orientation of the linkage so that when you weld it back together, it will be clocked correctly. Again, not difficult, just pay attention. The rag joint even mated up to my Toyota u-joint properly.

I used the factory steering wheel, which I believe is 14".

I will post a quick build thread for anyone interested.

My new wheel is 15", the OEM wheel is considerably larger ~18". The commonly found inexpensive replacement wheels on ebay et al aimed at the tuner crowd are 13". Useable with power steering, but look too small in our largish trucks IMHO.
