Anybody want an engine for their truck . . . only $100 . . . Many available. You will have the fastest truck in town! Note that the auction ends at 8 PM today. Good luck . . .
Sounds like some company made a donation to the school district and now, rather than using the engines as an educational tool, they are selling them off to raise cash. Another fire sale in the motor city.
The only nice section of Detroit is Dearborn, and even that can get scary at night sometimes.
Only if you are middle eastern. But Dearborn would take exception to being called Detroit. You have to get north of 8 Mile to find nice, although some of the sections of Detroit are making a big comeback. Lots of investment coming in looking for the deal of the century particularly along the riverfront. The area around Wayne State University is nice also as they have their own police force that covers on and off campus in that area of town.
When I have to work in Detroit, I stay in Dearborn. Driving to the plant in the morning is like crossing into a war zone. And I am advised by everyone at the plant to be out before dark.
The plant tour includes showing where all the bullet holes in the walls of the building are. Last time the plant manager giving the tour found a couple new ones he didn't know about.

Oh a few bullet holes don't mean anything. I had an office with a bullet hole in it. They add character. When I moved up here from Atlanta in 1986 I was greeted in the airport by a big picture of Coleman Young (corrupt Mayor) that said "Welcome to Detroit". It reminded me of the huge Klan billboard sign on the highway as you entered Alabama from Georgia near Columbus that said "Welcome to Klan Country". The horses eyes lit up red at night.
My third day on the way into work there was a dead body covered with a sheet on the sidewalk outside a bar near the office. This was the old AMC headquarters actually in Detroit near Dearborn that became the famous Jeep & Truck Engineering after the merger with Chrysler. We didn't drink in that bar after work either.
Here is something that you guys might be interested in seeing. As I said some big money is looking for places to invest in Detroit. Here is something new: a gasoline alley, a test track and condos with a 2 to 50 car garage starting at $130K. They are building 350 units and have signed up 476 interested parties so far. There are many big car/truck collections scattered around town so I don't doubt that number. And most everyone I know has at least one collectible car taking up space. This would give them a convenient place to use them.
This is really not in downtown Detroit but in an up and coming area is near Birmingham and Auburn Hills where the big http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler_Headquarters_and_Technology_Center is located. Also only about 20-25 min from the GM Tech Center and Ford World HQ in Dearborn.
I think that thomabb should buy one so that he doesn't have to stay in Dearborn when he comes up here. Then we could all use his place as HQ when we go to the Woodward Dream Cruise. I guess he would have to have a unit with a 50 car garage?
