radio only plays for 10 minutes?

I recently bought a 2013 F150 xlt.I'm trying to listen to the radio with the truck not running(nascar race). The key has to be on and the doors open so i can hear the speakers. After about 10 minutes the radio shuts off and the display says low battery. My 2010 never did this.I tried putting a trickle charger on the battery and nothing changed.Any ideas?

I think it's designed this way to prevent the battery from getting low. Not sure if that's a feature you can change.
Should be able to have the key in the ACC position and it'll stay on longer, although I confess I haven't tried it with my truck.

I had the same problem when I first bought my F 150. I even had a service writer look at the problem. After I drove it for a couple of hours, the problem went away.

I'm not sure what you mean. I just checked on my truck, and there are four positions on the ignition switch.
Off (where you can insert and remove the key), ACC, Run, and Start.
They aren't labeled, but when the ignition is in the second position, (that I call ACC), the radio turns on, and I assume it stays on.
With the key removed, I have confirmed that the radio only stays on for ten minutes on my truck.

Are ACC and run the same position and you're counting twice?

I'm pretty sure I wasn't counting twice.
Described a different way, here's the positions

1) Key not turned, can be insterted and removed freely
2) Radio comes on, dash gauges and warning lights NOT lit
3) dash gauges and warning lights lit
4) starter engaged, (this position is momentary, and when released, key goes back to position 3).

what do you guys have?

I don't know about the XLT, but on my truck, you push the power button and the radio comes on.
Even without a key in the ignition.

Wifes Edge is the same way.

On my '13, you just hit the power button on the radio and it will come on and stay on until you turn it off or open the door. Try listening with the windows open and doors closed.

page 195 of the 2013 owner's manual, 3rd printing:

the ignition switch has 4 positions.
A - Off
B - Accessory
C - On
D - Start

Accessory allows the electrical accessories such as the radio to operate without the engine running. Note: do not leave the ignition key in this position too long. This could cause your battery to lose charge.

the bummer here is that one cannot have the key in the ignition in the accessory position with the door open. well, you can, but the non-stop dinging will compel you to either shut the door, or turn the ignition switch to "run" to make it stop.

something i really wish ford would consider. i sit in my truck all day and sometimes, i'd really like to just open the doors, kill the dome lights, and listen to the radio.

Your 2013 isn't your 2010. BMS (Battery Management System) was introduced in 2011. Read-up about it in your owner's manual.

Don't have one ?

Any ideas?
You didn't charge the battery correctly. With the BMS, the -(negative) charger lead MUST be connected to an engine | body ground point. The vehicle has to have ABSOLUTELY NO activity (not even opening the door) for 8 HOURS so that the BMS can recognized the state of charge. This can be overridden by having the dealership reset the BMS using their IDS (Integrated Diagnostic System) tool.

I hate how it shows the low battery after 10 or so minutes. We got to the drive in theater, woudl be nice to not have to start the truck ever little bit to get the low battery light off.

The battery by no means is low.

What you're saying is if the battery goes dead then I'll miss an entire day of work waiting for it to detect new or recharged battery. Wonderful.
