Just completed my front disc conversion. Wow what difference. Should have done this years ago. Good pedal feel and the back brakes are reacting well with the new fronts even with the stock drum brake master. Only problem I'm having is the pedal delays returning back after applying like maybe a half a second or so. I thought maybe the calipers were hanging up but it's not pulling to either side. I stopped on a slight incline and applied the brakes several times. you can feel it grab for that half second each time you apply. Releases freely after. Any suggestions? Thanks.
New or used parts? Old lines can collapse holding pressure. Did you grease the pads when installing? I'd have to check part #'s, but you may need to replace the master cylinder even without power assist.
Used parts but I bought new hoses, pads, grease seals, reman calipers. I talked to a mechanic and he told me I needed to remove a residual valve located in the m/c just behind the brass seat. Its a small rubber valve with a spring that suppose to keep some pressure back on drum style brakes, according to him. I popped it off and everything is good now. Thanks
Make sure you ground enough metal of the knuckles.... It would be best to have somebody up in the rig working the pedal to see if the calipers slide and do not hit and drag/bind up on the knuckles.
If you confirm that is not the problem, then make sure the slide pins are ok. you said the stuff was used, and these slide pins can be all kinds of problems. Next culprit is worn hoses where they my be slightly collapsed inside,or they are turned too sharply.
