Been going through the trailer the last couple of days since we got back, making the minor repairs that invariably crop up after a long trip. I had noticed during the trip that a front corner of the belly pan was loose but did not really have the tools with me to address the problem.
So I got under there today and it looks like most of the points that it is fastened are getting torn away. It is made out of a material that looks kind of like corrugated cardboard but it is plastic. Looks pretty flimsy to me, especially at the front where it is going to catch a lot of wind.
I am going to replace the first four feet but I am not sure what would be the best solution. I am thinking of using a piece of exterior grade 1/4" plywood, treating it, and then covering it with a piece of fiberglass sheeting. The fiberglass is some stuff that is actually designed for commercial toilet walls and is pretty tough stuff.
I am certainly open to other ideas. I just want something sturdy since that front section seems to take the brunt of any road debris.
fibreglass isn't great for impacts. it'll chip and shatter. The plywood would absorb and deflect the impact better.
I've seen some trailers with rubber stuff that looks similar to industrial matting on the front end. Something like that would be a good cover.
