Longbed Running Boards

I read on a couple different sites that the longbed running boards are not being reproduced. And I'm sure that they would be quite hard to find on a donor in decent shape. Does anyone know if they are in fact being reproduced and where?

I think we talked about this before, but be careful you don't end up with a set for an F-250. If the current owner isn't very familiar with them, the F-100 and F-250 118" wheelbase running boards are very similar - but I don't think they are the same in the rear.

I can't find a listing for body type 81 rear fenders in my parts catalog but I'd be interested if anybody else knows for sure about the differences between the running boards, if any.

Longbed Running Boards

The F-250 running boards are longer than the F-100 running boards. The f-250 has the 8 foot bed and the boards are longer. I saw some guys at Pigeon Forge with f-100's with 8 foot beds. This must have been something they came out with in '56 'cause they swore these trucks were F-100's and stock. I didn't think the 8 foot bed came on the F-100 until later. You might want to try Dan Carpenter to see if he has a pattern for the longer running boards or try Bruce Horkey as he has several doners and might have a set you could buy. I had the same problem with bed sides as the previous owner cut a foot off of my '55 F-250 to make it look like an F-100. Horkey had 4 sets of bed sides that he said were in pretty good shape. The only other options would be take 2 sets and cut and weld or go the wood route. The long bed seems to be a problem in that there are not a lot of replacement parts made for it. The rear fenders are the same on the long and short beds. The Wheel base is a little longer on the long bed as well. I found that the reaer brake hose on the F-250 is the same as on the F-100 but the front brake hoses are different. These are just a few of the things I've found to be different. Hope I've helped and not rambled too much.

I've heard that Bob's f-100 in Riverside CA has a lot of used stock. If he doesn't have them, then maybe he could give you a good lead. God Luck, John

I just took a look at the gallery and that 8 foot bed look like the one on my F-250. The 8 foot bed on the F-250 is not only longer but deeper and wider that the short bed. The tail gate from the F-100 will not fit the F-250 bed. I would venture to say if you measure your bed and compare to the width and height measurement on the F-250, you might find it is the same as the F-250. My bed takes a 9 innch board in the center, 2-8 inch boards next to that and they get smaller as they go out to the bed sides. I don't know if this helps or not.

In regards to the long bed running boards. I have heard that to go from long to short, with sucess. They were cut and sectioned, seems like the reverse process might work

Ford did make a factory F-100 8 foot bed in 1956. They were produced on the F-250 frame. There was one for sale here in Oregon a year or so ago. I believe it is still around.

Just to give a straight answer, there is nobody reproducing the running boards for the trucks with the 8ft box. Used ones are relatively hard to come buy in good shape, and if you do happen to find a good set, be prepared to shell out the cash for them.

Just be careful that you do not buy the long running boards for an f350. That had a 9 foot bed and slightly longer running boards. I used to know the measurements, but can't find it now.
