Hi guys, I have a 2001 F350 7.3L, banks inter cooler, performance compressor wheel, Big Hoss Banks tune. The truck runs like a champ and pulls anything, but my engine oil temps worry me. I have the banks pillar gauges, oil temp runs about 210 running gently. Even when empty if I pull a grade or romp on it the temp pushes 240 degrees. If I am loaded I run a steady 235, then I have to consciously work to keep the temp under 260 degrees. The gauge appears correct because I have tripped the service engine light before and you can smell the engine heat if I push it. Factory coolant gauge is always normal, slightly less the half way in the normal range. Is this because of the extra fuel /power or is there a problem? Also has anybody found a good fix for this? I was considering an additional oil cooler. Does anybody know of a good one for it?
Thanks KDR358, sometimes it just takes a different perspective to state the obvious. I was ready to tear down and check bearings and other wear and really starting to sweat it. I overlooked the obvious, go back to factory and see if there is really a problem 1st. I didn't get a chance to yet, but I now feel it is likely the turbo and juice making it hotter than the water temp. I don't want to harm my toy, but I love the pulling power, I'll check it out and look for a cooler to get that temp down while hauling.
Thanks again
Just connected a diagnostic reader to my truck while driving. I found that my factory water temp gauge is wrong, temp went to 255 F while pulling a mountain and the reader went to error. The truck was set back to factory and I was running the truck unloaded. My oil temp hit 240 F. So actually my oil is trying to cool the water!! Back to further investigating.

Look to your cooling system. Is anything obstructing your radiator? Has your coolant been changed regularly?
Found things to be OK in the end, sender to gauges was faulty. Put in a new water temp and oil temp gauge, then exchanged sender for oil temp because was still too hot, now they all read similar
