Does it have the shifter levers on the outside of the tranny? If so, that's the tranny that is related to the old toploader tranny. They turned the 3rd and 4th shifter lever upside down, so in 3rd you are really in the old 4th spot which is 1 to 1, and in 4th you are really in the old toploader 3rd gear, and they changed these gears to give it overdrive.
The other tranny sort of like this is the SROD and it has the shifter built inside the tranny, no outside levers and linkage rods.
OD ratio is way too high, .67:1 IIRC, and there is a huge gap between 2nd & 3rd.
This trans is not known for strength. It will survive "normal" driving just fine, but start towing and/or getting a bit abusive, and it'll give up rather quick.
Dam. Well I'm after the zf from a 250 will that bolt in?
Yes and no.
The trans will bolt right up to the engine, and *may* even be able to use the same clutch.
The trans crossmember will have to be moved back a couple inches, and the driveshaft will need shortened by a couple inches.
You will also need to find the trans tunnel cover for the ZF, as they are rather tall, and need a taller (bolt-in) trans tunnel cover.
Whats a good bolt in that has nice ratios like the zf that will not kill me on gas but i can tow with keeping in mind that I am upgrading to 3.55 posi I have the parts already.
