I have an oil leak in my 5.0. It seams like it is the tranny because it is right where my tranny is connected to my engine. I know it is not the tranny because it is not tranny fluid. I have no clue what it is and I really dont like it when my truck leakes. Also my tranny is an AOD.
Thanks Rudy
Sounds like you have a bad rear main seal. (where the tranny input shaft connects to the engine) Well good news, it's about a $20 part. Bad news, you have to drop the tranny to put it in.:-X23
Get right under there with a trouble light or equivalent and have a look around. I had a leaking oil pan gasket and it looked like a rear main oil seal leak. All the oil was being blown back onto the tranny and everywhere else under the truck from turbulence when driving. On your tranny, there is an inspection plate on the bell housing. It's held on by two bolts. Take the plate off and have a look. If it is relatively clean and dry behind the plate then it is probably not a main oil seal. Good luck
I had a similar sounding problem. Ford told me that it was the rear main. I had my mechanic look at it, he said it was the oil pan gasket, he replaced it, and that solved the problem for about 1/2 of what Ford wanted for the job!!
I agree with the other replys. Check the oil pan gasket out closely. I too had a similar problem and turned out that the oil pan gasket was the culprit. replaced it, for well below what the Ford House was going to charge for the rear main replacement and no leak since.
i had a bad leak like this it turned out when i put my pan on after changing the oil pump the new rear main seal had slid outta place so i had to drop thje pan again and put it in place again and it dont leak n e more
