Today coming home from work, my truck lost all power. No lights/power/nada. I wiggled every wire I could find and checked all the fuses. after 10 mins I called someone to come pull it the half mile home. While sitting there waiting, playing on my phone,, EVERYTHING came back to life. I started it up and drove home. what gives??? What in the electrical system of these trucks could possibly cause that? It's almost like when a breaker trips or a circuit overheats but as simple as these trucks are I'm stumped.
I would look close at the battery terminals and grounds to the block and frame . Check the cable connection at the solenoid also . Sounds like a loose or corroded connection .
I've replaced all battery cables, added a second battery in the past few months and checked them all tonight. I'll swap a different ign switch and see what happens.
Did you get the 2nd battery wiring correct, for sure? Ck out Wrangler Power Products web site.
Dual Battery System or you can connect the batteries with a heavy duty relay. Wrangler Power Products in Prescott, Arizona; sells a relay, three position switch and all wiring for about $100. Switch lets you connect both batteries when running (for normal use), all the time (jump start yourself), or not at all (If there is a problem with the batteries).
Also marine supply houses sell manual switch for use in boats, they will work fine in a car, but you have to turn off the car to turn the dial and switch modes, or else it can fry your alternator.
