Intercooler boot failure

I was pulling our 14k fiver home after a weekend at the lake and I heard a muffled pop sound. About a minute prior I had checked the gauges and everything was normal. It honestly sounded like a chinabomb tire on the ttrailer had popped. Puled over and all tires were good so I popped the hood. ....

Here's the bottom half. Is this possibly a warranty item? 2011 with 61k. And no mods. Plus a lot of oil on everything is that normal?

turbo boots is probably a wear item. Although that piece is part of a plastic housing so it maybe covered. Unusual location for a failure

That suck man. That should be warrantied, if not there are a few companies that have upgrades for that pipe.

Exactly where my one of our med units failed. Only a hole in the bottom that couldn't be seen. Check your CAC at the outlet as well...behind the battery.

Good news was that I was only about 10 miles from the house and that made it a little easier getting everything back. The camper is back in storage, truck is in the driveway waiting for the dealership to open. My dad towed my truck in using his ford (wouldn't let any other brand plul me in) and my brother picked up our uncles truck and pulled the camper to town. When we were pulling my truck, I didn't startthe motor but did turn the key to the acc position so I had some sort of steering and braking.

Boy Howdy that brings back some bad memories from towing our Travel Supreme with my F350 7.3PSD. Going through the hills of Kentucky when the boot blew off of the turbo. Truck and trailer had to be towed to Bowling Green behind a Chevy gasser tow truck. Good news was that the tow truck first towed the caravan into a local KOA and we set up the trailer. Then towed the truck to the Ford dealer in town. We walked across the street to grab a bite to eat, walked back to the dealership picked up the truck and next morning we were off once again.

Good luck with the fix, and Happy Camping,

I have been noticing mine looking pretty crappy where yours blew apart for the last month or two. May need to go aftermarket sooner than I wanted to. This is what I had in mind:

11-14 Ford 6.7L Intercooler Pipe Upgrade Kit

Yep. Check behind the driver's side battery. Our unit blew both at once somehow. No one can figure it out why both. My tech says that the CAC pipe coming out is plastic and that fitting that blew on yours is too. He has seen several failures in those two areas. Says he has no idea why Ford skimped on quality in those two areas.
