I have this 81 f100 and it wonders all over the road. Much worse than the normal issue these trucks are known to do. There isn't any play in the steering wheel so I'm thinking its not the gear box. When I am on a gravel parking lot and turn in a circle the front end seems to slide like one wheel isn't tracking the same as the other. And any little bump or pot hole makes truck jump across road. Any ideas what this could be? Thanks

Take it to a frontend shop and see what they say when they go to align it. They may say you need parts, and usually will charge you a small fee if you want to take it off the rack and go home and replace them yourself.

King pins or ball joints? 81 can be either.
If king pins, make sure they aren't trying to sieze up. Jack the front wheels off the ground, and attempt to grease them. If the grease won't go in, it may be time to service or replace them.
