I just saw a white EB go on e-bay for $8,800. It was cherry and had only 103K. Man it looked clean, but ofcourse pictures usually do. I was thinking about maybe taking a chance on one. Even if I have to fly to Florida to pick it up. I just think it will be hard to find exactly what I want locally. Has anyone had any experiences? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2422360498
Yo,
I see a few Broncos for sale out there in NM for less than that; have you checked the on-line resources to track one down?
I like: http://www.autotrader.com
Your apprehension is correcto imo also. Last things I'd buy sight unseen or spend time and $ to travel to see are vehicles and chickens.
I was having the same problem, when I rarely find one locally that isn't rusted, the price is ridiculous. I really wanted a 351W and no rust. I'll have about $6100 in this one with delivery. IMO I can stand about $1000 of unforeseen damage before it becames a bad deal. There has to be some cost savings to make up for the extra risk involved. Check out your seller as well as possible. If a dealer, you can do web searches to make sure you are dealing with a legitimate business. Legitimate dealers are listed in yellow pages etc. Car Fax is also helpful. You'll never eliminate the risk entirely. I have to say I have been ripped off locally in the past with undisclosed damage. Used autos are never risk free. One last comment and I say it without all the facts. I work across the street from a huge auto auction service. Friends that work there tell me Florida has extremely loose titling rules. It attracts the unscrupulous. Be extra careful buying from there.
Thanks Guys! Fatfenders: Thanks for the tip on Florida. I didn't know that at all. My girlfriend's cousin is a cop and he would run the VIN number for me to make sure everything is cool (or atleast to the best of my knowledge). I'm not in a huge hurry because I still need to sell my Tacoma. I'll keep looking locally.
I've bought lots of stuff on Ebay, including some truck parts. I've always come out pretty well, but I have seen people get tooled when buying vehicles. There's a guy in the '67-72 forum who got a raw deal (rustbucket) on one truck, then got a pretty darn nice '67 F250 on his second Ebay purchase. It would be hard to get me to purchase a vehicle that I had not seen before, however.
fatfenders I hope the Bronco turns out to be good for you. I live in WV and I have heard some bad stories about KY cars. They have very loose laws for titling vehicles. They don't have salvage titles and a lot of cars go there and are sold rebuilt. The pics look pretty good on your Bronco though. I don't see how people can get away with stuff like that. Hopefully you found an honorable person.
I just bought a 1994 EB on Ebay for $7700. 82K miles, Dark red over tan, leather -- really beautiful. Also perfectly stock whcih was important to me.
You just have to be careful. Pay a lot of attention to feedback. My dealer had ~30 previous vehicle sale with 100% positive feedback, so I felt pretty safe. I also asked a lot of specific questions: any fluid leaks, ever wrecked, anything not working, etc. I printed his email responses and brought them with me to pick up the vehicle. If any of his information would have been less-than-accurate I would have walked away or renegotiated.
I also just bought a brand new OEM leather-wrapped steering wheel from an Ebayer for $70. He has a lot of them -- I'd love to know his story. If any of you are in need go to Ebay and search fro Bronco steering wheel.

Apparently there are a number of states without salvage title laws. If you buy a car that has ever been titled in these states, I suppose you are at some risk. My auction friend have told me stolen cars get frequently laundered in FL. No doubt you have to be careful as you can, no matter how you buy a car. I am going to get some extra stress on this transaction. I will be in the woods with the Army when my wife takes delivery next week. Don't get to see my new truck for at least a couple weeks. Oh well, at the very least, it looks like I bought a nice parts truck. My seller passes the weasel test after about 15 minutes on the phone. I haven't found too many saleman around here that can. Talk to you guys in a few.

New Steering wheel on Ebay:
The subject line says that it is for a Ford Truck. Searching titles AND descriptions should have found it. Anyway, check out item #2423806526.
