thanks alot. had a real hard time trying to find info, which of the two do you think whould be better to keep I have a I-6 300 and a manual 4 speed with a real low first( I can let the clutch out in first and it wont stall, just idles down the road)

That's good for off-road, and so is the 9" with 3.50 gears. The 8.8" with 3.08 gears is more of a highway ratio, thus better mileage, unless you go to 31/32" tires and then it's under-powered. The 300 I-6 is a stump- pulling hoss!

The axle code on my door sticker says H9B. I know the H9 part is 3.55 L/S, but what does the 'B' stand for? Maybe 'B'oth, as in front L/S too? The way my front diff behaves, I do suspect it is a L/S.

I've never seen a three digit axle code before. I've never even HEARD of one.
There are a couple of ways to tell if you have an LS front axle.
One way is to crawl under and scrape the gunk off the tag. My D44 IFS says '3.54' on it, so I know it's open (3L54 would mean factory LS). Of course, if anyone installed an LS unit aftermarket, or swapped the carrier, this won't work.
The foolproof way is to jack up both front wheels and spin one by hand. If both wheels spin in the same direction, it's got LS. If the other wheel spins the opposite way, then it's open.
Factory LS units in the front are pretty tough to come by, from what I can tell. Count yourself lucky if you have one.

It could be you have a front limited-slip,but according to 1990 Ford spec book,a front limited-slip axle code for Bronco,F-150,F-250,& F-350 would be a three digit code, but the third digit would be a '2'. A 'H92' code would be 3.55:1 front&rear limited-slip. Does your truck have auto hubs,or manual hubs? I don't know exactly what year Ford changed it, but you could only get the optional front limited-slip if you had standard locking hubs. Could that 'B' in your truck's three digit axle code be a '2'?

It's most definately a 'B'. Came standard with manual hubs. Just changed to Mile Markers because of some noise I was getting when hubs were locked. Didn't solve the problem, and I think now it's the slip joint in the front driveshaft that's dry and clunking around. Front end jacked up and hubs locked, both wheel turn the same direction. If only one tire is off the ground with both hubs locked, I can't spin the tire that's in the air. I can't see the tag on the axle because it was nicely undercoated by the used car dealer before I bought it. Here's a picture of the door sticker.
