The advantage of the wide track is that the front wheels turn a full 45* where as the regular fronts only turn 38*. A huge difference in turning radius, but you can't turn the wide track to a lock position and the truck in 4wd. If you do, the knuckle or axle will break, which is pretty expensive.

nice looking rig!
Hey Guys...I'm a newbie to this heavy towing and need some advice. I'm looking at a toy hauler about 17500 lbs. I was going to upgrade to a 15 diesel but not wild about getting a dually. Will a 2500 tow this much weight without any issues? Any advice will help.

That red does look awesome.
Thanks Guys

that would right at the 350 SRW total carrying capacity. (RAWR 7100-3500 usually)
250 RAWR = 6100
no people, fuel, stuff, spare.
but you'll be over on the max trailer, 15900 CC 4x4
and over on the GCWR too 11300+17500 = 28800, max = 23500

so, short answer, no a 250 will not be adequate, and a 350 SRW will not be either

After working all the numbers I ended up spec'd out with the truck in my sig line.
F350 Crew Cab, Dually (long bed), 4x4, 6.7 PSD, fifth wheel prep and hitch.
I was not wild about a dually either, but with the weights we will be towing, I would rather have the added security and stability of the dual wheels.
This is for my retirement and we aim to have a good time - that doesn't include white knuckle driving..

Copied from another Ford site:
Chassis improvements
The F-350 is available with a high-capacity towing package that includes new front springs and a wide track axle, increasing the gross combined weight rating with the 6.7-liter Power Stroke engine from 31,900 pounds to 35,000 pounds.

I got to try a 450 at a camp rally last week. what a difference just pulling out of the site.

NO, if you want that heavy of a trailer just start with a 350 DRW and consider the 450 (or 350 with the 450 axle)
Check with your insurance company too. My 350 DW put me into a commercial policy for 2 years.
Having a toy hauler you will find it extremely easy to exceed the GVW. Sometimes without any toys in the garage.
