I have a 1963 F100 Flare Side which is blank on the data plate where the color letter should be, which means the truck came with a special order colour. The only original color is in the interior, and that is brown.
Is the interior color a clue to what the exterior color would have been, or could it simply have been brown?

Not an expert, but my experience from being around the trucks, the answer is yes. It most likely was brown in color when it left the factory door.

Since the COLOR code on the Warranty Plate is blank, there is no way to know what color the exterior was, no way to know if the interior color was the same as the exterior color or not.
In my one case I was able to ask the original owner. He said he ordered it in Sauterne Gold and Wimbledon White. I was told no such color as Sauterne Gold initially, but it is the same as Sage Gold and was a 1966 Ford color.
If you have a build sheet or original invoice those can help as well.
I did go look at an F100 Ranger that was ordered in Emberglo Brown. Repainted, but in the same color and it looked pretty good. Also had a blank color code. Ordered from Bowen Scarff Ford in Kent, WA (still in business). He had the original invoice, also.
peek inside places like the cowl , fresh air inlets , behind the covers for the fender bolts , etc . those can give you a clue to the original color as not many places repainted a average vehicle to that much detail back then .
Wow, TA that's an interesting '66 Ranger. There is a '66 in Emberglo - not a Ranger - locally but I've never seen the "T" interior in a '66. The Canadian order book I have seen has "not available" scrawled across the "black" option. Unusual in the US too, yes?

Different how? Rosette or not? What is that distinction ND? I thought the ranger seat was plain Mustang, but your info indicates there were two different black upholstery designs used.

I posted the parts catalog pics of both types. 1T81: 1T is black crinkle all vinyl, T81: T is black crinkle vinyl & black rosette pattern vinyl. Both: bucket seats.
I actually want to paint the truck in the 63 color Turquoise, which I like.
To TA455HO, I have a 66 Mustang in Sauterne Gold, with a white vinyl roof, looks very nice, also, Sauterne Gold is a color in its own right, it is different to Honey Gold, and has a more green tinge to it that the gold of Honey Gold.
