I posted this over in another thread, but figured it would be good to start a new one on this issue. So, my neighbor offered me his unsolicited advice yesterday while I was in the middle of oing 20 other things. I was letting the truck idle after the TS install while putting stuff away. He walks over and asked me if I checked "rocker panel cover gaskets". I figured out he was asking about the UVCH gaskets, to which I replied "no, but they look fairly new and seem to be in good shape". He tells me the truck has a bad miss! I just told him it's always sounded like that and he shook his head and said "whatever" like I was dumb and didn't know anything. Now, I have never noticed anything, but maybe I am not hearing it right? It seems to run good to me and has good power, accelerates all the way to 3300 rpm if I want it to, and does not have any codes? Maybe he was hearing something I wasn't? If it was missing or the harnesses were bad, wouldn't it throw a code or wouldn't something else be amiss? I'll post in a new thread. Maybe I need to get a Youtube video up and get everyone's consensus.
A video would make it a lot easier to diagnose a miss. The PCM won't throw codes for a miss either. It's possible that it is missing a little. Honestly, these things are so noisy at idle it's hard to tell some times. The best thing to do would be to use an IR thermometer on the exhaust manifold right after a cold start and measure the temperature at each exhaust port. If you have a miss, you'll find one hole that is running cold. You can usually tell if it's missing by revving it up to a little above idle too and it should smooth out and purr. I'm with you though in agreeing that it can be hard to tell on these 'ol rattlers....
With 206k (I think that's what I see on your ODO) on the clock I think what you have there is normal. These things all have a little lope at idle because of the variations in ICP pressures, but I think what you have there sounds about right.

Thanks Nate, that's what I thought! yeah, 206k on the clock so far. I can't believe I have already had it for a year. It had 194k on it when I got it, so only 12k this year. It feels like a whole lot more! My numbers on my CTS Monitor are all in range and the truck runs pretty good. I have never liked the rougher idle, but it seems to be normal, like you said. I am hoping my E fuel install next week will help some with that, but I have gotten used to it. Thanks again for the input!
Sounds fine to me. A lot of people think these things are missing, but that's just the way they idle. Trust me, you'll know if it is missing. I battled one for months on my previous truck.
So when are you coming north? I'm only about 800 miles away at the other end of the state .
I would love to head up that way. We might do a trip in the Fall towards Napa or Big Sur. What about an RRW meet? That's what we need!

Thanks Bill! This is my second confirmation. I love this place. It's great to get knowledgeable real-world input. I figured I would know after driving it for a year.
Sounds good to me! Mine has a little lope when it's warm, but injector orings seem to have helped that.
My buddy who has a 96 psd just had injectors and some other things done to his truck. He's at 160k, well anyways I drove his truck and his doesn't idle no where as good as mine. And that's the one I was trying to beat. Lol. Knocked that one outa the park. His trans was a slush box too. I told him that he should need that up. And he has the dreaded edge programmer as well. I told him you need to get rid of that!!!
Anyways, sounds good to me Byron! Like Rick said, any miss you would most likely feel. Keep on rocking.
