Just got an EEC-IV trouble code readout on my '94 Ranger (4.0litre, 5pd, 4x4) of 522. My trusty Haynes repair manual tells me that code is, "Manual Lever Position (MLP) sensor circuit open/ vehicle in gear."
Does anybody know what this sensor is?? I never heard of of of this kind of sensor before. Is this code just letting me know the truck is in gear? I got a similar code on a previous test that told me the a/c was on, so that's why I ask.
The MLPS is only used on automatic transmissions. There is probably a neutral switch in your 5spd and they are using the same code. I believe the code is similar to the AC code. The only time there would be a problem is if that code popped up and it was out of gear.
steve83, I tried that link you gave me and selected the trouble codes tab. When I entered the year model, trouble code then pressed enter, I was prompted to download an ***** file which after it downloaded didnt work. ANy ideas what's up with that?
I don't know what you dl'ed, but just look up in either Chassis Electrical or Transmission and see what you can find. The Haynes is better, but charlez is right- you don't actually have a MLPS - just a NSS. That code may refer to the switch on the clutch MC rod above the gas pedal.
