Nice looking truck great find
I never understood why people block out the license plate number in pics. it is nothing secrete that anyone driving down the road wont see, XS1 138
Exactly. oversight on my part. It hasn't been registered since 98 and I'm really not worried about someone having the license plate number. It will be replaced and no one really knows where my shop is so, it's all good.
Do NOT believe the miles shown on the odometer, as it reads to 99999.9 then returns to ZERO!
Yessir. I have definitely agree however, I have the documentation from the truck. Truck was purchased in 79 and kept in the family. Along with the title were all sales and maintenance records. They are true and accurate miles, based on timeline of service records and dates.
Well I am pretty sure that push bar #17984 never came out in a "chrome" option, black only. I have seen pics of only one after it got chromed by the owner.
Do you have documentation to support that it was a factory chrome option.
Maybe in your books there is something on the Indy pace truck options? What I believe is it was a factory offered option?
On the OP's truck I can even see the driving lights in his pic, that are maybe Marchal?
Was the pace truck set up from Ford or some dealership? Almost ever pic of that truck has a black push bar on it.
And there is a difference in the 73-77 versus the 77-79 mount ability.
HJ over.
This push bar is mounted and has the same switch mounted inside the cab. It is consistent with what I have seen with your posts. Thanks for sharing.
From the way he looks it should shine really nice with a good cut and buff.
Thanks! There is no telling what would have happen to this truck if it sat any longer.
My plans for the truck is to do a once over on all hoses, air and fuel. Reg S.O.P Maintenance. Replace the tires with the new BFG Mud Terrain tires (stock). I might put a pair of pipe bumpers from my 78 fleetside on it and tint the windows. The truck is sound and ready to drive. Oh, I am also going to see what the cost of the 134-A conversion will cost. It has factory A/C.
Knowing the area, and the way a ranch vehicle is used, I would not be surprised if, in this case, the odometer is correct. If it didn't come from a ranch then I wouldn't be too sure. The '79 F-350 I bought a couple of weeks ago has about the same miles on it, and I know for a FACT that it shows the correct miles.
My '79 F-150 rarely gets driven anywhere except on my ranch. Last year it clocked less than five thousand miles.
All day, every day! I only found this truck by word of mouth and it would have probably never come up for sale otherwise.
You really don't have to do anything on your a/c to run 134a. If the compressor is good, go to NAPA and get a dryer, install it, pull a vacuum and if the system is tight, put the fill adapters on it and charge it. I did that on both my '76 and my '79 and they work just fine. I would drain the oil in the compressor before starting and put fresh in. These York compressors have a crankcase similar to a small engine. The oil doesn't go in the a/c system like the newer vehicles.
Good luck with it. If you ever head up toward Brady or Llano drop me a PM. I'd love to see this rig in person.

Absolutely! I will do that. I make a run up there every now and then. Especially Llano.
