So I have been driving with the windows down and now I know what everyone is talking about, that whooshing sound coming out of the exhaust. It sounds really bad like someone is choking. So had anyone tried the DPF back Cool Duals from MBRP or Flowmaster or any other company? Not really looking for more power but looking for better sound something a little more manly. Or does the 5 inch single system sound better? Any fitment issues? Thanks.

i have a 4 in dpf delete pipe with a banks monster muffler (4inch in / 4inch out) with a 5 inch dpf back kit from mbrp when i threw the muffler on the whooshing sound is gone but no real change to the sound of the truck that i can tell i was glad to get rid of the whoosh sound
I also am deleted so my sound is different, but put a DPF delete pipe on and left the stock portion from there back. I hated the sound you are talking about, hated the look as well. So I took a cutting wheel to that SOB. Just before "Y" just before that weld that sound went away. My plan, have not done it yet is to buy a tip and just replace it. that being said those stock tips have those cooling ports for ambient air. I believe that they make tips that will keep that same concept. <O</O
You guys don't like the more pronounced turbo whistle when you loose the rocket ship off the truck? Or are we talking about a different kind of "whooshing" noise?
I chuckle when people ask me why I deleted my truck but kept the "boring looking" stock exhaust tip... stop looking at it! Look at the tires and wheels and lift and other stuff instead hahaha.
if that question is posed to me...
Not at all concerned about the turbo sound or the look, as stated it's the blow drier sound that is so wimpy
after all, I had tuned 7.3, 6.0's, etc...
and haven't heard a 6.7 with more whistle than a 6.0's with a good flowing turbo back exhaust and strong sct tuning
just know they will void the warranty and emission test whenever they can...
When you get on the throttle it has a wheezing sound like an old gas engine with a clogged cat. It just sounds like the engine is congested, which I guess it is. I have been on Youtube and it doesn't sound like the DPF back kits do anything they sound the same as stock. However I think there would be a difference in sound when driving but I have not been able to find a audio clip of that. If I were to purchase a DPF back kit, it would be a single pipe, the duals are just too expensive. Amazon has a Magnaflow kit for $292 which is way cheaper than anyone else. Here is the link

There isn't really any way of improving the sound characteristics of newer diesel trucks with the DPF filter. We can clean up the aesthetics of the exhaust system but the sound of the vehicle will basically remain the same. Switching to a 5 inch pipe will only make the issue worse.
Flowmasters website says mild/moderate sound. So what's the truth, does it get rid of that chocking sound or not? I think I would prefer the 5" system if I were to get one. Others have said that the DPF back system has a better sound especially the 5".

Our kit will give the exhaust system a better overall tone with the sound level ranging from mild to moderate in terms of aggressiveness. When it comes to these vehicles, you are basically at the mercy of the DPF. It is possible to get a better exhaust tone, but completely eliminating certain sound characteristics of the vehicle is not likely.
