I tried this in the heavy duty board with no luck so I'm throwing it out in here. 94 F-350, 4x4. Had my front brakes done. New pads and rotors along with a new u-joint on the passenger side. My question is, now, when I turn left and sometimes right but not as bad, I get a squeaking from the front left side. I talked to one of my friends and he said his Ford does that too. It's the metallic pads on the rotors. When I straighten it out again, it goes away. He said the rotors shift when turning and then, after straightening back out, if you tap the brake pedal, it re-centers everything. Today, I tried the tapping but the squeak kept going even driving straight. He also said it may go away after a few hundred miles or it might not. If it doesn't, pull the pads and rough the surface up and reinstall. Does that sound like good advice? It's seems more annoying than anything. Sorry for the long post.
The rotors don't shift - they're trapped by the lugs and the hub, and the forces on the rotors don't change when turning. If they move in relation to the brakes, it's because the wheel bearings are loose.
1/2-ton '94s have floating calipers, but I don't know about yours. It's possible that the calipers are binding slightly and causing the squeak, but I doubt it.
I suspect it's the stub (spindle bearing) dust boot or the inner wheel seal.
You might look into periodic cleaning and greasing of the sliding parts on the calipers. I never knew to do this before but learned a year or so back that we should clean, inspect and lubricate the brakes regularly, say every other oil change or so. Use special high temperature brake caliper grease. A little dab will do ya.
You might also look into putting some of that antisqueel goo on the back of the pads. It seems to help but can wear out after awhile and needs to be reapplied.
