Quad Shock Frontend

I just had my shocks replaced with Rancho 5000 on my 91 Silver Anniversary. I guess I don't have the quadshocks up front. I looked at my buddies 89 EB and i can see that he has them but mine looks pretty different. Was the quad shock an option? I thought it was very strange because even the guy at 4 wheel parts wholesale thought i had quadshocks until he actually had to put the shocks on and give me some money back.

Yea, I guess just take alook... I thin the auxillary shock you speak of is an option.. I think you can drill out a mount and add the second set??

You're right, the quad front shocks were optional. They were part of the Heavy-Duty Service Package, which besides the quad front shocks also included : rear stabilizer bar, heavy-duty rear shocks,heavy-duty battery(84 amp-hr.), and super engine cooling. Our '89 Bronco Custom & '94 Bronco XLT both had the quad shocks up front. I wish my '90 did.

The second set mounts on top of the radius arms and up behind the springs. Adding them could be done, but you would have to fabricate upper bracket unless you replaced the upper spring/shock mount with the wider one for the quads. The lower mount should be easy since it just mounts to the radius arm with two bolts.

The rear ones on the radius arms are the primary (standard) shocks. The front ones (on low brackets on the axle) are the auxiliary (quad) shocks. Some trucks have the axle brackets for the fronts, but the normal spring tower. If so, you can grind off the rivets & swap in a quad spring tower and buy another pair of shocks. I had to add the bracket to my '83 axle AND the towers to my frame.
