Ok here goes, All was fine, then one day last week had trouble starting, the starter acted like it wanted to turn over with what sounded like a 1/2 of turn....after trying it a few times it would turn over strong, then i realised that my interior lights weren't working, nor my head lights and radio, the radio backlight will come on and the sound will fade in and out, i cannot change the station or the volume, no clock either, i replaced the starter and the ignition switch, still having the same problem.
I had a problem similar to yours. My negative battery cable ran all the way from the battery to a starter mounting bolt, six or more feet! Well, I bought an 18" #2 cable and grounded the negative post to the alternator bracket. Havent had a problem since. My radio was loosing it's memory every time I would start the engine, the engine cranked slower than I thought it should and it did not seem to charge as well as it should. My volt meter with all the accessories on was not much over 12 volts. All that changed after I changed out that cable. I later increased the size of the positive cable also. Do yourself a big favor, do this, you will notice a big difference!
That doesn't exlpain why my headlights, interior lights and radio aren't working tho, brake lights and turn signals work fine, engine starts strong after a few turns of the key, these problems are all connected somehow, they all started the same day, I am STUMPED here
Check the small ground wires on the truck. Like the one that goed from the battery to the radiator support, the one to the hood, the one to the firewall, etc. Also the pos and neg cables from the battery and at the battery. Sounds like you have a bad ground in the system and that will cause the problems that you are having.
